The 12th meeting of the National Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (NCID) in the Republic of Tajikistan was held on December 11, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dushanbe. The meeting was chaired by the Director of the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan (ALRI), Chairman of the NCID – Zafarbek Davlatzoda.
The event was attended by about 80 participants of the NСID, including representatives of ministries and departments, research institutions, international financial institutions, international organizations, national and international experts.
During the meeting, the participants were presented with the Action Plan for 2024-2026 of the Program for the Development of the Land Reclamation and Irrigation Sector for 2024-2028, adopted by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated June 1, 2024, No. 327, the results of the 14th International Drainage Workshop on “Modernization of Irrigation and Drainage Systems to Adapt to Climate Change and for Sustainable Development”, held from May 30 to June 1, 2024 in Dushanbe, the results of the implementation of the National Water Resources Management Project in Sughd Region on the topic: “Integration of Disaster Risk Reduction Measures into Irrigation Systems and Infrastructure Improvement in Transboundary Sub-basins of Sughd Region” implemented by HELVETAS with financial support from SDC and ACTED within the framework of the STREAM project, “Support of the National Water Resources Management Project to the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation in the implementation of water sector reform”, as well as the results of the CARITAS Switzerland project on the topic: “Weather-sensitive irrigation advisory services for improved well-being”.
The meeting featured a presentation of modern irrigation and drainage technologies from leading international companies from Iran and China.
During this meeting, the Director of the ALRI held a meeting with the Head of the Representative Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Holger Wiefel. The parties discussed issues of joint cooperation in the implementation of investment projects in the field of land reclamation and irrigation, and also expressed their readiness to cooperate in the field of implementation of energy-efficient technologies for the pumping stations in the ALRI system.
At the end of the meeting, the participants emphasized the importance of developing the land reclamation and irrigation sector as one of the key sectors of the economy, contributing to the achievement of strategic goals for ensuring food security and employment in rural areas of the country. It was noted that holding meetings of the NCID will help attract domestic and foreign investment for the modernization of irrigation and drainage systems. The holding of this meeting was supported by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.
