74th meeting of the International Executive Council of the ICID

On November 8, the final meeting of the International Executive Council of the ICID was held. At this meeting, information was also presented on the progress of preparations for the 14th International Drainage Workshop in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and a pavilion of Tajikistan was organized where participants learned about Tajikistan’s global initiatives on water and glaciers.

During this meeting, elections were held for the president of the ICID and 3 of his 9 vice-president for the next 3 years. Based on the voting results of the ICID member countries, Marco Arcieri from Italy and his vice-presidents from the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Thailand were elected.

Based on the results of the discussion by the permanent members of the Committee for Organizing ICID Events, it was decided to hold the following ICID events:

1) 4th International Drainage Workshop, Theme – Modernization of Irrigation and Drainage Systems to Adapt to Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 30 May – 1 June 2024.

2) 9th Asian Regional Conference (AsRC), Sydney, Australia; Sep 01 – Sep 07, 2024;

3) 1st Middle East Regional Conference, 26-28 February 2024, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

4) 76th International Executive Council Meeting and 4th World Irrigation Forum (WIF4), 7-13, September 2025, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

5) 26th International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage and 77th International Executive Council Meeting, 12 – 18 October 2026 – Marseille, France.

In general, during the above events, a unique opportunity was provided to meet with representatives of NCID from other countries, including Indonesia, Australia, China, Malaysia, Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Italy, Russian Federation, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, India, Norway, Egypt. and the Netherlands, where issues of global water initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan, the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” for 2018-2028 and a proposal to declare 2025 the year of glacier’s preservation, as well as issues of support and active participation of representatives of NCID from other countries at the 14th International Drainage Workshop in Dushanbe in 2024, were discussed.
